So what it looks like is Villagers will attempt to path to a bed or a workstation with the same behavior code ( SetWalkTargetFromBlockMemory according to the official deobfuscation for anyone who cares) and it has a couple conditions which cause the villager to delete their workstation or bed from memory. Eventually I got so frustrated I looked in the code to figure out what was happening. Especially with them forgetting where their bed or workstation was. So I was having villager AI problems as well. Making it too complicated would kill their charm. The way Villagers act now is nice in its simplicity. Unfortunately that may be a bit too complicated for Vanilla Minecraft. Also, they could pay you “tribute” every few days that increase or decrease based on their happiness. High happiness increases the chance of them throwing you random loot/lowering prices. So having lots of food and not shoving them into 2x2 cubbies as bedrooms makes them happier, along with more golems roaming around. One cool thing would be if they had a “happiness” system based on things like food-supply/trade/safety/living space. Also being able to order Villagers to follow you. Maybe things like being able to see Village Boundaries, or reassign/see claimed beds. Getting an official position via increasing your reputation high enough would be great, especially if it gave you perks besides reduced prices and random loot thrown around you.

The Village and Pillage update was a step in the right direction with that, but think of the possibilities of a Villager AI update and the ability to build relations with the villagers themselves and being their king.Įxpanding/raising a Village is basically a poor man’s Animal Crossing. It's a completely ridiculous idea, but I've always thought that controlling and defending territories in Minecraft would be awesome. In addition, instead of constantly trading with the villagers to level them up, the villager could level up simply by passively doing their jobs. Even some items (think enchantments or potions) that can only be collected by collecting them as tax. You decrease your likeness by hurting a villager or killing a villager.Įach villager's job would be actually rewarding for the players - if you have good relations then you can collect taxes: items, objects, food, etc from the villagers.

You can increase how well you are liked by doing various things in the villages like trading or even using your own items to upgrade a villager's job site area or something like that.
You could take over other territories and make them your subjects. Essentially, you could have territory wars that you participate in. I've always imagined creating your own villages and then going to war with other villages. Imo I think villagers would be a ton better with better AI.
